Short version: some links here earn us a commission, it costs you nothing extra, and it has no bearing on what we say about a brand.

Now the longer version, because if you’re trusting our recommendations you should know exactly how the money reaches us and where it stops.

How we actually make money

When we link to a product, that link sometimes carries a tracking code. Buy something after clicking it and the retailer hands us a small share of the sale. You pay the standard price. Clicking our link never costs you a cent more than going direct would.

We work through affiliate networks, mainly Awin and Impact, which sit between us and the brands and handle the tracking and payouts. We’re not employed by any company we cover. We don’t hold equity in one.

Why a commission can’t buy a good review

This is the part that matters.

Ratings come out of research: who owns the company, which certifications hold up, where materials come from, what the ingredient label admits to. Commission rates never enter that process. We’ve written warmly about brands that pay us nothing at all, and we’ve been hard on brands whose links would have made us money.

If a company we earn from turns out to be doing something we can’t defend, we say so and the rating drops. That has happened. It’ll happen again.

Nobody can buy a spot in the directory or a better score. There’s no rate card, because there’s nothing for sale.

How to spot an affiliate link

We mark them rather than hide them. Affiliate links on this site carry a nofollow sponsored tag, which is the standard way of telling search engines that a link is commercial. Links to studies, certification bodies, and news coverage stay unmarked, because nobody’s paying us for those.

Any article carrying affiliate links will say so up top, before you’ve read far enough for it to matter.

The legal bit

The FTC requires disclosures like this one to be clear, conspicuous, and easy to find rather than buried in a footer. That’s the standard we’re aiming at here. If you think we’ve fallen short of it anywhere on the site, we’d rather hear it from you than not.
