Meliora
Quick verdict: Meliora is what happens when two engineers decide the cleaning aisle is badly designed and go fix it themselves. Every product is MADE SAFE certified, the company is a woman-owned B Corp, nothing ships in single-use plastic, and the ingredient lists tell you what each ingredient is actually doing. It also costs less than the mainstream detergent it replaces. The products are plain and the laundry powder asks slightly more of you than a pod does. Our rating: 4.7 out of 5.
Who they are
Kate and Mike Jakubas started Meliora in Chicago, where they still make everything. Both are engineers, which explains a lot about the brand: the packaging is unfussy, the claims are specific, and the website reads like people who would rather show you the data than sell you a feeling.
The name means “better” in Latin, and the company describes its founders as proudly uncool. That’s the register throughout. Meliora is woman-owned and remains independent, with no parent company and no acquisition in the story.
