Who they are
Sheena Zadeh-Daly founded Kosas in Los Angeles in 2015 as a makeup brand, self-funded and formulating in her kitchen, and took friends-and-family and angel investment as it scaled. Chemistry is the body and deodorant line that came later.

What they get right
The mechanism is the best in the category. Body odor is bacteria metabolizing sweat. AHAs gently lower skin pH so those bacteria struggle, which addresses the cause. Baking soda also changes pH, but in the wrong direction and far too aggressively, which is why it burns people.
No baking soda, so the most common cause of natural-deodorant rash is absent by design.
It works, and holds up better than most aluminum-free options through a long day.
Mandelic acid is the specific AHA choice, and it’s the gentlest of the family, which suits an area of thin skin that gets shaved.
Where they fall short
Certification is thin. Leaping Bunny and nothing else: no EWG Verified, no MADE SAFE, no organic certification. For a brand making a mechanistic claim about skin chemistry, more independent verification would be welcome.
Acids on freshly shaved skin sting. It’s a mild formula, but if you shave and apply immediately you will feel it. Applying at night or on unshaved days solves it, and nobody tells you that on the packaging.
It’s a small line inside a makeup company, so deodorant isn’t the main event and the range is narrow.
