Nudie Jeans
Quick verdict: Most brands sell you sustainability as a material. Nudie sells it as a service: bring the jeans back and they’ll fix them, free, for as long as you own them. Behind that sits the highest Fair Wear Foundation score we’ve seen on any brand in this directory. Our rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Who they are
Maria Erixon and Joakim Levin started Nudie in Gothenburg in 2001, and it’s still theirs, held through their own Svenska Jeans Holding rather than sold on to a group. That’s worth stating plainly, because the sustainable-denim shelf has thinned out lately. Everlane went to Shein in May 2026. Nudie didn’t go anywhere.
What they get right
Fair Wear Leader, scored 91 out of 100. Nudie has been a Fair Wear Foundation member since 2009 and sits in the Leader category, the top band, for financial years 2024 and 2025. Fair Wear audits how a brand actually buys: whether its order scheduling forces overtime, whether it pays suppliers in a way that lets them pay workers. That’s a harder thing to certify than a fiber, and 91 is the highest we’ve recorded.
Free repairs, forever, and they mean it. Repair shops worldwide, mail-in repair, and a free repair kit if you’d rather do it yourself. A brand offering to keep your jeans alive is a brand that has given up the easiest way to sell you another pair.
All the denim is organic cotton, GOTS certified, rather than an organic capsule sitting next to a conventional main line.
They take the worn-out pairs back to resell or reuse, which closes the loop at the end rather than only at the start.
The factory list is public. Nudie publishes a production guide naming its suppliers, which is the disclosure most brands stop just short of.
Where they fall short
Not a B Corp, whatever the listicles say. Several sustainable-fashion roundups list Nudie among B Corps. It isn’t in B Lab’s directory. Fair Wear and GOTS are what it actually holds, and they’re strong, but we’d rather correct the record than repeat it.
Raw denim is a commitment. The jeans are meant to be worn hard for months before the first wash so the fades set to your body. That’s the point, and it’s also a real ask if you just want jeans that look good on Tuesday.
They’re expensive up front. $195 to $260. The repair program and the ten-year lifespan are what earn that back, so the math works only if you actually keep them.
Wages are still the open item. Fair Wear’s own assessment credits Nudie’s time-bound plan to raise wages across its supply chain while noting it’s still working to sustain progress on overtime and pay. That’s Fair Wear grading honestly, and it’s a live issue rather than a solved one.
What they sell and what it costs
Jeans are the core, $195 to $260, alongside jackets, shirts, knitwear and tees. Repairs are free. Worn pairs can go back for resale.
Who it’s actually for
Buy Nudie if you want one pair of jeans for the next decade and you like the idea that the brand is on the hook for keeping them going. It’s the closest thing in denim to what Patagonia does with Worn Wear.
If you want the same durability instinct at half the price, Patagonia’s own denim runs $119 to $135. If plastic-free stretch is what you’re after, Triarchy solved that problem specifically.
Deals and discounts
No affiliate relationship on our side. The repair program is the real discount, and the resale section is the cheapest way in.

Frequently asked questions
Does Nudie Jeans really repair jeans for free?
Yes, for the life of the jeans, and it isn’t limited to the first owner or the first year. You can bring them to a Nudie repair shop, mail them in, or order a free repair kit and patch them yourself. The company also takes back worn-out pairs to resell or reuse.
Is Nudie Jeans a B Corp?
No. A number of sustainable-fashion roundups say otherwise, but Nudie doesn’t appear in B Lab’s directory. What it does hold is Fair Wear Foundation membership since 2009, currently scored 91 out of 100 in the Leader category, and GOTS certification on its organic cotton.
What does Fair Wear Leader status actually mean?
Fair Wear audits how a brand’s own buying behavior affects the people sewing its clothes: whether order deadlines create forced overtime, whether pricing lets suppliers pay properly, and whether problems found in audits get fixed. Leader is the top band. Nudie’s most recent benchmark is 91 out of 100, held across financial years 2024 and 2025.
Why is Nudie denim raw and does it matter?
Raw denim hasn’t been pre-washed or distressed, so it fades to the shape of whoever wears it instead of arriving with someone else’s creases printed on. It also skips the water and chemistry that pre-distressing burns through. The tradeoff is that you’re meant to wear them a good while before the first wash, which takes patience.
